I've accumulated rather more than I have at home, but that is not what I would call a high bar to pass. [Oh hey look, it's a quick camera tour of the room! Over here is a shelf with a few plants and a zen garden on it, over there is a...lamp? It's a wicker ball hung from the ceiling emitting a soft red light, but from time to time a fish swims through it. It's a glowing fish? Hung on the wall are some sketches and paintings and a large quilt that looks like it's from Libuscha IV.]
None of it is strictly necessary, of course, but I've learned the pleasure of souvenirs.
[quietly] It would be a home without any of it, as long as I had her.
Ah, yes, the fish are mine. I picked them up on one of the first planets I visited - they provide an auxilliary light source in case of a power outage, which has happened before.
But still. That gets an extremely confused look from the Vision, and his concerned face is back.]
Captain Rogers, I cannot swear a vow to commit my life to another person when I am not in control of when and how I might leave this place. It would be meaningless and cruel to make a promise I know I have no chance of keeping.
[Steve opens his mouth to say something like how this moment was all we really could promise to someone. How, even home, they weren't in control of their lives. Not really. No one knew what the next day would bring.
But he was just parroting what he had heard from other people. Deep down, he understood Vision. And it was something he was troubled by, as well.]
I get that. Yeah. It makes sense, Vision.
[He shrugs a shoulder and tries to smile.]
The wedding was a nice party though. Wish you had seen it.
[Steve's head tilts, eyebrows knitted together with a concerned confusion.]
You've never been to one? Not even the one between me and Peg? [He's a shit friend. He knew they had wanted something small but had no one but Winter been there for the whole thing?]
They're nice. Happy. It's basically just a big party for the couple.
Ah, no. That was well after I left and before I returned.
[He'd only heard about it secondhand, though he hadn't been surprised. And that version of Steve had disappeared almost immediately after the Vision had come back.]
Mr. Stark has proposed to Miss Potts, in my time. I've at least been invited to that one, so I'll no doubt get a chance eventually.
[His expression softens a little; for him it's been years since the fight, but not for Steve.] He misses you. [Will never admit it, but Tony does miss Steve a lot.]
Hmph. Perhaps in his earlier days that would be true, but he's beginning to learn the value of letting Miss Potts introduce a bit of restraint into his life. It will at most be a quarter of the city.

You really have a home over there. That's nice. The fish is pretty impressive, too. Is that Wanda's or yours?

How long have you two been living together?
no subject
Mmm, several months now. Since Libuscha, I believe - about mid November?

You guys really are incredible together. [He pauses, not sure if he should say anything about what Wanda texted while drugged.]
Ever think about getting married here?

[Oh, right, Steve was just at a wedding.
But still. That gets an extremely confused look from the Vision, and his concerned face is back.]

Then again, he doesn't need a ring to know that he belongs to Wanda, heart and soul.]
It does sound like it. I'm sorry I did not make it - I've never actually been to one.

I'm sure you'll have a great time. Tony doesn't do things in half-measures. I bet he'll have half the city rented out for the shindig.

[He smiles wanely at the rest.] Maybe when I get back we can talk about things. I miss him too. A Hell of a lot.
no subject
[He smiles a little.]
He may even eventually admit he was wrong. Perhaps.
